Short Description

Provence is the Mediterranean France you have always dreamed of — air scented with maquis and lavender, a quality of light that has inspired painters for centuries, and a Roman history woven into every stone. Over five days, you will cycle from the papal city of Avignon through the herb-scented hillsides of St Rémy de Provence, past the dramatic cliff-top fortress of Les Baux, and onward to the timeless Roman city of Arles on the banks of the Rhône. This gentle itinerary follows quiet backroads and cycling tracks through one of the most beautiful corners of France. You will taste local wines and olive oils in the shadow of the Alpilles mountains, wander through villages where Van Gogh once painted, and end your journey among the medieval and Roman monuments of Arles. A train ticket back to Avignon is included, completing the loop. With daily distances of 32–40 km on mostly flat terrain and just one hillier stage, this tour is ideal for leisure cyclists and families looking for a sun-soaked cultural escape.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Avignon
You will arrive in Avignon, the Cité des Papes, and settle into your hotel in the very heart of the city. Take time to explore this magnificent walled city — the Palace of the Popes, the famous bridge, and the lively cobbled squares where the spirit of Provence pulses through every café terrace.

Day 2: Avignon – St Rémy de Provence (32 km or 56 km)
You will leave Avignon on small, quiet roads, cycling through a landscape of open fields and picturesque villages toward one of the most beautiful towns in the region. St Rémy de Provence is known for its aromas of wild herbs, its charming squares, and its artistic heritage — this is the town where Van Gogh lived and where Nostradamus was born.

Day 3: St Rémy – Les Baux – St Rémy (40 km; hilly)
You will ride out to the remarkable pilgrimage site of Les Baux de Provence, built at 200 metres high on a rocky outcrop and dominated by a ruined fortress. On the way you will enjoy wine and olive oil tasting at a local grower. The return takes you through the wonderful landscape in the shadow of the Alpilles mountains, passing through the village of Les Baux de Provence before the final stretch back to St Rémy through fantastic nature.

Day 4: St Rémy – Arles (32 km)
You will leave St Rémy and cycle south toward the Mediterranean Sea and the town of Arles, settled on the banks of the Rhône. You will discover a city of extraordinary Roman heritage — its well-preserved amphitheatre, countless medieval churches, and monuments that have earned it UNESCO World Heritage status.

Day 5: Departure from Arles
After breakfast, you will say goodbye to this wonderful region. Your service finishes in Arles, with a train ticket included for the return to Avignon.
