Short Description

An 8-day self-guided cycling tour across Austria from Salzburg to Vienna covering 330 km along the Danube and through the Austrian lake district. Flat river paths and baroque cities. From €888 per person.

Tour Program

Day 1: Salzburg (Arrival)
You will arrive individually in Salzburg and check into your hotel, where travel documents and rental bikes will be waiting. The rest of the day is free to explore Mozart's birthplace — the fortress above, the cathedral squares below, and the sound of music in between.

Day 2: Salzburg – Lake Attersee (60 km)
You will leave the Mozart city heading towards the Salzkammergut. The road will carry you past the shores of the picturesque Mondsee, where forested hills drop into glassy water. By afternoon, you will reach Austria's largest inland waterway — Lake Attersee — stretching turquoise and vast before you.

Day 3: Lake Attersee – Lake Traunsee (50 km + boat trip)
Well fortified by breakfast, you will tackle a short ascent into the Weißenbachtal. A rapid descent rewards the effort, bringing you to the banks of the Traun and along it to Ebensee on Lake Traunsee. A boat will carry you and your bike comfortably across the lake to Gmunden, framed by mountain peaks.

Day 4: Lake Traunsee – Linz (30 km + train ride)
You will continue along the Traun to Lambach, where a train will whisk you onward to Linz, the vibrant city on the Danube. The afternoon is yours to discover: the Ars Electronica Museum, a sensory explosion of art and technology, or the striking Lentos Art Museum on the riverbank.

Day 5: Linz – Grein (60 km)
Past the Danube town of Mauthausen, you will immerse yourself in the impressive natural landscape of the Danube floodplains. Rare animals and plants inhabit these quiet stretches, and the river bends wide and slow through green lowlands all the way to the charming town of Grein.

Day 6: Grein – Wachau (65 km)
The history of the formerly treacherous Danube navigation comes alive at the Maritime Museum in Greinburg. From here, you will ride into the rugged Strudengau gorge, where rock formations rise dramatically from the riverbanks, before the valley opens into the legendary Wachau wine region.

Day 7: Wachau – Vienna (65 km + train ride)
The Wachau will unfold its full splendour: terraced vineyards, apricot orchards, and medieval villages perched above the river. You will cycle to Tulln, then board a train for the final stretch into Vienna. A tram ride along the Ring reveals the city's imperial landmarks — the State Opera, Hofburg, Parliament, and the Votive Church.

Day 8: Return to Salzburg (Departure)
After breakfast, a return train journey to Salzburg is included. From here you will continue your onward journey, carrying the memory of Austria's cultural heartland with you.
