What is the right age to ride a bike?

What is the right age to ride a bike?

Every sport has a target age group to address: many say so, but we are not entirely sure. The bicycle, for example, is not only a faithful travel companion, but also a democratic ally to discover the world: whether you are 5 or 75 years old, if used consciously, it can always bring immense satisfaction. So let us unveil what the right age to ride a bike is: are you curious?

The right age to cycle

As doctors say and research confirms, playing sports helps to make you feel better emotionally and physically. But what is the sport suitable for all ages? Clearly, it's cycling! This discipline is recommended for both very young children and those who are "over the hill", provided they do not suffer from particular heart diseases. Introducing people to "two wheels" is an excellent choice because it is an investment for future health: cycling in fact helps to protect the heart, improves muscle tone, helps maintain a healthy weight, preserves the joints and trains endurance.

There is a well-known saying that "you do not stop pedaling because you have become old, you become old because you stop pedaling". The right age to ride a bike does not exist because this discipline, practiced regularly, safely and consciously, perfectly adapts to the capabilities and needs of adults and children. The secret is to never lose your curiosity and measure your effort according to your physical conditions, adapting to age progression and the new demands of the body, such as increased recovery time and partial loss of muscle mass.

The "Cycling Without Age" project

The bike is a travel companion, a friend to rely on for your everyday routine and an ally to keep you fit, but when age no longer allows you to pedal, what happens? "Cycling Without Age" is a wonderful project that started from a simple act of kindness to a neighbor, but then turned into a project of international scope. It all started almost by chance in Denmark, when the young Ole one morning loaded his 97-years-old neighbor Thorkild, who spent a lot of time sitting on the bench outside, onto his cargo bike. From that moment all Thorkild's friends wanted Ole to take them to explore their native places and so he turned to Copenhagen City Hall asking help to bring this project to life. Today there are many young people who travel all with the same cargo bike, with two front seats and a pedal assist driver at back. From Europe to the United States, from South America to Australia, many elderly people can go to explore their childhood places, chanting "The wind in the hair is a right"! So, the right age to ride a bike doesn't really exist because everyone deserves the chance to continue exploring the world, whether it's by pedaling or being driven by a trusted friend!
