Umbra Valley by bicycle: discovering the authenticity of its villages

Exploring Umbria by bike is the best way to get in close contact with the most authentic soul of the villages that inhabit the Umbria Valley. A wine and gastronomic tradition passed on from generation to generation, breathtaking landscapes and artistic and cultural treasures: a trip to this area of Italy is the perfect opportunity to rediscover your inner self, whilst being pampered by the surrounding beauty.

The hidden villages of Umbria

The landscapes of the Umbria Valley will lead you to the discovery of wonderful villages, where history and art have remained intact over time thanks to the care and love of the inhabitants. Many of the alleys of these small medieval villages feature stone houses with flower-covered balconies: the churches and historic buildings are home to masterpieces of timeless charm, created by masters like Cimabue and Giotto.

In addition to cycling between hillside streets and grape vines, you can taste the typical dishes of the local gastronomic tradition , starting with a plate of strangozzi with goose sauce and concluding with the brustengolo, a typical dessert made with buckwheat flour.

Bevagna and the charm of the romantic places of Umbria

Discovering the Umbria Valley will allow you to explore some of the most romantic spots in Umbria, nestled between the hills: one example is Bevagna, in the province of Perugia. Here, the artisan shops and medieval buildings will immediately capture your attention: this small town actually preserves traces of the ancient Mevania with the remains of the Roman theater, baths, and temple. As if time had stopped, the heart of this ancient village is Silvestri Square, considered one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Umbria.

If you want to immerse yourself in its most authentic atmosphere, you can take a tour of the local shops: Bevagna is in fact famous worldwide for the famous canvas bearing its name, obtained from hemp and appreciated for its special resistance. A craft handed down with love from father to son: it’s impossible not to be won over by this corner of beauty.

Torgiano: discovering one of the most beautiful small villages in Italy

Torgiano is not only considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, but also one of the capitals of good wine. The origins of this small village in Umbria are linked to the legend of Janus, the two-faced god, to whom the ancient tower, known as the Tower of Janus, was dedicated.

Visiting this place is a dream come true for any wine enthusiast: a must-visit is the Wine Museum, one of the most famous in Italy. It was founded in 1974 and is located in the 17th century Graziani – Baglioni Palace and here it is possible to admire the most complete and important collection of viticultural techniques and wine culture present in Italy.

Assisi, the city of pilgrims

Discovering the Umbria Valley by bike is a perfect journey for those who wish to come into contact with everything authentic that Italy can offer: from food to wine, from nature to culture.

Assisi is the ideal stop to conclude this tour, getting lost in its labyrinth of streets and hidden treasures: considered in all respects the city of pilgrims, this small gem of Umbria is still today one of the most beautiful medieval towns.

In addition to visiting the Basilica of San Francesco, we recommend that you allow yourself to be captivated by the works of art by Giotto and his school: and finally, don't forget to taste the famous Rocciata, a dessert of medieval origins filled with apples, hazelnuts, walnuts, and raisins.
