Short Description

Southern Corsica is the island at its most dramatic and untamed β€” mountain passes that climb above 1200 metres through forests of ancient chestnuts, medieval hilltop villages perched on granite ridges, and the legendary white cliffs of Bonifacio gazing across the strait to Sardinia. This southern chapter of the GT20 takes you from Corte, the historic mountain capital, through the wild heart of the Alta Rocca to the spectacular finale at Bonifacio. You will cross the Verde Pass at nearly 1300 metres, descend into the remote valley of Zicavo where water flows endlessly through the village streets, ride beneath the famous Bavella Needles at Zonza and loop through the ancient villages of Levie and Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano. The journey ends with a long, exhilarating descent to the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio and onward to Bonifacio β€” a fortress city carved into white limestone above the sea. With serious mountain stages and over 4900 metres of total climbing, this is a tour for strong cyclists who want to experience Corsica's wildest and most rewarding terrain.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Corte
You will arrive in Corte, the former capital of independent Corsica. Nestled in the heart of the mountains, this characterful town rewards exploration β€” a hilltop citadel, picturesque streets and the Museum of Corsica combine history with unspoilt nature all around.

Day 2: Corte – Zicavo (80 km; +2117 m / βˆ’1809 m)
The first stage is a mountain epic. You will ride through forests of chestnut trees and over the famous Verde Pass at 1289 metres before descending into the remote Haut Taravo valley. Zicavo is a mountain village of flowing water and hidden gardens, nestled in the heart of the Natural Park. Above the village, the Pont de la Camera waterfall and its crystal pools await. Dinner is included tonight at your guesthouse.

Day 3: Zicavo – Zonza (44 km; +1800 m / βˆ’1743 m)
You will ride ever southward, crossing the remote Vaccia Pass before descending to Zonza β€” one of the oldest inhabited territories of Corsica, known as the Land of Lords in the Middle Ages. Perched at 762 metres in the heart of the Alta Rocca, Zonza reveals its breathtaking setting on arrival: the famous Bavella Needles rising sharp against the blue sky.

Day 4: Loop around Zonza (~40 km)
A circular ride through the wild beauty of southern Corsica. You will visit Levie, a charming mountain village, then Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano with its authentic character, continue through Zoza and climb to Serra di Scopamène for breathtaking mountain views. The loop descends through Quenza, a picturesque village nestled in nature, before returning to Zonza.

Day 5: Zonza – Bonifacio (71 km; +1014 m / βˆ’1783 m)
The grand finale. You will pass through Levie and its beautiful natural setting, then the road drops dramatically to the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio before arriving in the sumptuous coastal city of Bonifacio β€” a gem perched on white limestone cliffs with views across the strait to Sardinia.

Day 6: Departure from Bonifacio
Your GT20 South adventure ends after breakfast.
