Bicycle tourism grows every year, and as early as 2019, the figure of 20.5 million Italian travelers who decided to move by bike was reached: about 6% of the total tourist demand. Although still a low percentage, the trend confirms that this type of vacation is becoming increasingly important in the hearts of travelers.
The European countries most frequented by cycle tourists are also those that generally offer the most services, such as Austria, Germany, Denmark, and France. Italy ranks 8th, particularly with Trentino Alto Adige, Tuscany, and Lake Garda. As you have already read in our previous articles, the bicycle for us is not just a means of transport to get from one place to another, but a real lifestyle, a new way of understanding the journey.
That's why today we want to share with you the characteristics of a bike traveler: if you haven't approached the world of two wheels yet, but you recognize yourself in what you'll read, this could be the opportunity to do it!
Bike tourists are generally united by two big passions: the one for two wheels and the environment. That's because the bicycle allows you to have a completely different lifestyle than those who travel by car or public transport: times change, the stages, the ways, and the real journey is no longer the final destination but rather the journey itself. Moreover, the bike lets you respect the environment, bringing you closer to a more sustainable and responsible type of tourism - first, because you reduce your impact on it and second, because you don't damage the landscape, you travel slower and have all the time to immerse yourself in the local culture.
Bike tourists are curious because they love to throw themselves into new adventures, take up challenges with themselves and their travel companions, but above all they love to discover unexplored corners even off the beaten path.
Bike tourists know how to adapt to every situation because traveling by bike is not always simple: imagine when it rains, when there is wind, when it's cold, or when you get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. A good bike tourist leaves prepared to face all these contingencies.
Unlike other types of travelers, bike tourists travel with family, in a group, but also alone depending on their preferences and passions. Anyway, a traveler with his own bike will never be alone!
Then there are some bike tourists who prefer the sea, others the mountains, others the cities or the hills: the beauty of two wheels is that you just have to find a road and the landscape does the rest!
Finally, bike tourists are generally optimistic people because they follow a great teaching: after every ascent there's always a descent!
