What to bring with you

Meals

  • Breakfast is always included in the trip.
  • Lunches are not included. As you pass through the various villages, you may come across shops (butcher's, baker's, shop, restaurant...) where you can buy food for your picnic. We advise you to buy the food you need in the town from which you are leaving. Also, keep in mind that, in small towns, shops may be closed on Sundays and Mondays. You will often find restaurants on your way.
  • Dinners are not included but there will be some restaurants in the vicinity of your hotel every evening. We advise you to book a table in advance.

What if I have problems while travelling

Our customers' satisfaction is very important to us. If you have problems with reception facilities or service providers, it is important that you bring this to our attention during the trip, without waiting until we are back home when we can no longer solve the problem, and we may have difficulty reconstructing what happened. Please discuss the problem directly with the person who is providing the service to you, so that so as to give them a chance to resolve the situation. If this attempt is not successful, please contact our office.

Inability to continue your journey

In the event that you are unable to continue your programme due to illness, injury or adverse weather conditions, we ask you to inform the host establishment of the next stage, as well as our secretariat. If necessary, they will help you change the sequence of accommodation, informing you of any additional costs arising from this change. These costs must be paid These costs must be paid on site, and you can then request a refund from your travel insurance if you have one.

Loss of personal items

In the event of loss or theft of personal items, if you wish to be reimbursed by your travel insurance your travel insurance, if any, you must report it to the local Police, who will give you a copy of the report. Most insurance companies will ask you for a copy of the claim in order to process your claim. If you lose your passport, the claim should valid as an international travel document, but always contact your consulate/embassy. Weather forecast We advise you to check the weather forecast the day before each stage, to know what awaits you and equip yourself accordingly. In any case, as Baden Powell, founder of the Scouts, said, ‘there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad equipment’. Modern equipment allows you to travel on foot or cycling even in bad weather conditions, and in any case past the first moment a long walk in the rain can still be interesting.

Heat

When the temperature is particularly high, the risk of dehydration is greater. Drink plenty of water, at least 1 ½ to 2 litres a day. Do not keep your phone exposed to the sun on particularly hot days. It could overheat and shut down.

Preliminary notes on travelling The kit we sent you includes maps of the itinerary, made by the S-Cape/SloWays staff. The maps have been updated but it is possible that you may encounter small variations during your trip. If we are aware of any significant changes to the route we will inform you of them in these trip notes, but in the meantime changes may have been made that we are not aware of, for example in the case of weather events, and we cannot therefore accept any responsibility for any inconvenience arising from such information. If you notice any errors, please let us know. We greatly appreciate any suggestions, remarks or comments you may have, which will enable us to improve the quality of our documentation or travel arrangements.

Technology

The use of modern technology can be very useful when walking. Smartphones and tablets are useful multi-functional devices, allowing you to see your position on the map using GPS, read route information or a book before bed, take photos and videos, read mail, surf the Internet, call home via Skype, watch TV, read newspapers and listen to music. All this with very little weight, a critical factor for those travelling with a backpack on their shoulders. A GPS can be useful but not indispensable. Above all, it allows you to estimate how far it is to the finish, averages and altitude differences. If you have one, ask us for the route tracks.
